Main Goal of the Records and Archives Management Unit:  The Records and Archives Management (RAM) has the primary goal of supporting the identification of, protection of and continued access to all UNICEF Records and Archives irrespective of the media, method, location or time of creation, transmittal or storage.  In addition to this main goals, the RAM unit must also:

  • Encourage unique identification of groups of record;
  • Develop decision aids for "appraisal value' recommendations;
  • Support the "reuse" of UNICEF information;
  • Update instructions and monitor training;
  • Identify unit responsible for issuing essential UNICEF document or record series;
  • Oversee transfer of historical record or document series to long term preservation or greater accessible alternate media of storage;
  • Work closely with the international community to obtain and provide professional information and advice.

UNICEF Records and Archives Management (CF/EXD/1983-2867):
The purpose of this memorandum is to state certain general rules with regard to the preservation of records of UNICEF in accordance with United Nations practice, and to prescribe custodial responsibility.

Procedural Guidelines for UNICEF Records and Archives (CF/AI/1983-359):
Pursuant to paragraph 1(a) of EXD-2867 of 9 November 1983, this instruction details the rules and procedures to be followed in respect of transfer, maintenance, custody and disposition of the archives and non-current records of UNICEF and also explains the guidelines concerning internal and public access to UNICEF records stored at the archives or record centre.
